Dog-friendly Lisbon & Silver Coast
Every place in Lisbon and the Silver Coast we have visited and filmed with Aba, our rescue dog, with our verdict on visiting with a dog. Each guide is written from our own videos.
Lisbon and the Atlantic coast north of it, up past Peniche to the Óbidos Lagoon: wide surf beaches, dunes and small seaside villages.
Every place we filmed here got a "loved it": long beaches with off-leash room outside lifeguard hours, the calm Óbidos Lagoon where Aba learned to love the water, and Parque das Nações when Lisbon gets too busy.
Parque das NaçõesParque das Nações is one of our favourite places in Lisbon when Aba needs a break from the busy city. Our walk runs from the Iberian lynx through small parks, past the Vasco da Gama Tower and along the Tejo towards the bridge. The streets are clean and there's lots of shade. We also found off-leash opportunities and many other dogs.

ConsolaçãoConsolação is a small summer village just south of Peniche. Off-season it goes quiet, and the long Supertubos beach and the dunes behind it give Aba hours of off-leash space. The village itself is not much to look at, and places to eat are few. Still, we found a bakery and a grill we love. You need a car, and supplies and vets are in Peniche or Lourinhã. From us it is a big thumbs up.

LourinhãWe go back to Lourinhã whenever we can. The beaches give dogs plenty of off-leash room. In July and August you need to avoid lifeguard hours. Almost all the beach bars welcome dogs, and you can bring your dog into the Dinopark. The town stays busy in winter and you can reach Lisbon by bus, so you don't need a car.

Foz do ArelhoFoz do Arelho is a quiet village on the Silver Coast where the Atlantic meets the calm Óbidos Lagoon. The lagoon has kilometres of shallow, calm, warm water with no big waves or strong currents. This is where Aba built his water confidence. There isn't much in the village itself. You need a car, and Caldas da Rainha is close for vets and supplies. We definitely recommend it.
